The UCI World Championships are coming to Scotland in August 2023. Sportive Breaks are the official fan and amateur participant travel and experiences provider of the 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships in Glasgow and Scotland.
The 2023 Individual Time Trial World Championships will take place in Stirling as part of the first ever multi-discipline Cycling World Championships, taking place throughout Scotland between 3 – 13 August. The Time Trial World Championships will take place from Wednesday 9th August, kicking off with the U23 Men, followed by the Junior and Elite Women on Thursday 10th August and finishing up with the Junior and Elite Men on Friday 11th August.
These Championships, featuring 13 World Championships across 7 disciplines including Time Trial will be the biggest showcase of two-wheeled action that the world has seen. It will be the first time that the Individual Time Trial World Championships have come to Scotland, having been part of the Road Cycling World Championships in Wollongong in 2022.
The World Championships are the one-off, single chance to win World Champion medals and coveted rainbow jerseys, with all riders representing their countries.

The UCI Individual Time Trial World Championships will take place over three days in Stirling and on the surrounding roads. The event takes place on closed roads, and the beauty of these races is that you can spectate for free, from the roadside, all around the course! The Individual Time Trial is a true test of rider and machine – setting off individually with one to two minute gaps between riders there is no hiding in the race of truth. Aerodynamics are critical in this event, with futuristic looking bicycles and helmets and the tightest of clothing. Riders will look to eek out every second over the course and maintain the highest power possible for the duration with every pedal stroke crucial to their result. The winner is the rider with the fastest time to complete the course. You don’t want to miss this unique opportunity to watch this captivating event where it can come down to hundredths of seconds between riders to determine who will take home the rainbow jersey!

This morning after breakfast you should make your way from the hotel in the city centre to the VIP hospitality area at Stirling Castle. It’s a short 15 minute walk and you’ll be able to pass by sections of the course that riders will be taking on at thrilling speeds later in the day.
Today you will enjoy the hospitality as the Junior and Elite Women take on the technically challenging course for their Individual Time Trial. Timed individual efforts, setting off with a couple of minutes between riders, you will see extreme aerodynamics and bike handling skills in action.
You will be able to enjoy the racing action while enjoying multiple courses of hot food and a selection of alcoholic and soft drinks. You will have a prime viewing location to watch the riders at the finish line and a lounge area with a TV feed.

Venue
Stirling is easily accessible by rail or road links with plenty of train services and excellent motorway connections from all directions to the city. If you are arriving by aeroplane, you can fly into Glasgow or Edinburgh Airport, which are approximately an hour drive from Stirling.
The Hospitality venue is at Stirling Castle, which is an extremely important historic site overlooking Stirling city centre. This iconic site will be a unique venue for the Individual Time Trial World Championships. To access the venue, you must be able to walk 400m uphill.
About the Event

With full details of the exact route to be announced, the best spectator spots and excepted course completion times will soon be known.

In 2022 in Wollongong, Tobias Foss from Norway triumphed in the Men’s Individual Time Trial while in the Women’s race Ellen van Dijk took her second Time Trial world title. British rider Ethan Hayter just missed out on the podium in 2022, finishing in 4th place in the Elite Men’s race, he will be hoping to take home interests onto the podium in Stirling in 2023.
Important information
This event takes place outdoors, so you should be prepared for all weather seasons that Scotland is so famous for. It is worth packing a small rainproof jacket, as well as sunscreen and sunglasses. The Hospitality is all located undercover however you should be prepared for changeable weather conditions while out spectating.
