For dramatic scenery, it doesn't get much better than the Peak District. The gorgeous national park in the centre of England is full of amazing cycling routes with rolling terrain, some long climbs and some extremely sharp slopes. Over two rides we take in a wide variety of climbs, from the 10km Cat & Fiddle to the brutal Monsal Head with a 14% average. The highlight of the trip is arguable the two climbs closest to where we stay for the night, the incredible Winnats Pass & Mam Tor, two of the best climbs in the country.
The weekend starts in Leek with easy road access from most parts of the UK. Our team will meet you and roll out is for 10am after a briefing from the local guides. The route is rolling throughout but our first major climb is the famous Cat & Fiddle out of Macclesfield. From here, we head into the heart of the Peaks and the slopes get steeper, starting with Peaslows, a 1.5km climb averaging over 10% (our rental bikes have a 34x34 bottom gear, just saying!). We then head north for the beautiful Snakes Pass before spending the night in stunning Castleton.
Day two is slightly easier but still packs in four big climbs including the wild Burbage Moor and the nasty Rowlsey Bar in the shadow of Chatsworth House. This is the UK at it's finest with wild, rolling terrain and quaint villages. Both rides are punchy and perfect for climbers and all rounders.
24 (two groups of 12)
All of our Best of British cycling weekends are social, we ride in two groups of max 16 with a local ride leader and mechanical support in our support vehicles. On the flat and rolling terrain we all stick together and then climb at our own pace, regrouping at the point the ride leader has agreed (often for a coffee at the top).
On arrival in Leek you will be met by our team. We have two local ride leaders, one for each group who will ride at the front of the group. We also have a mechanic who will be in our support vehicle with spare wheels & equipment.
We set up feed stations every 40km with nutrition & hydration. We will give you a bag to put anything you want (extra kit, nutrition etc) which you can pick up from the feed stations.
Mam Tor to one side, Winnats Pass to the other side. This might be the best located hotel in the UK for cyclists! The hotel has a nice pub on site. With comfy rooms, a nice restaurant and a spectacular setting, this is a great spot for our night in the Peaks.
One night, two stunning rides with some of the UK's best climbs.
Our Peak District Weekender starts in Leek and includes two stunning rides. We ride in two groups on a no rider left behind policy. Each group has a ride leader and our support van is on hand to help with any mechanicals.
We stay in Castleton at the bottom of Mam Tor and have a social dinner all together and then a full breakfast the next morning before hitting our second epic ride!
