Job title: Cycling Tour Leader

Job location: Across Europe

Salary: Contracts from 6 – 9 months, £27k pro rata, Sportive Breaks kit and travel & board on tours.

We are an energetic team spread all over Europe with a small head office in Twickenham. Role Description 

Being a tour guide involves more than just riding your bike, we are looking for a worldly and capable candidate to plan and problem solve on the fly whilst ensuring that our guests experience the best possible service and cant wait to come back for their next Sportive Breaks trip. 

Our tour leaders manage a team of local and permanent guides and mechanics to deliver excellent cycling tours. Working closely with head office, you will manage the successful delivery of trips including hotel checks, prepping everything for guests, clear briefings and establishing a friendly atmosphere for all riders. You will manage the budget for the week and feed back to head office at the end of each tour.

A typical tour is 5 days with a 3 full day rides and 1 or 2 shorter rides. You will be riding or in the support van on ride days and prepping for the next tour on arrival & departure days.

You will be on location in Europe most of the time during the course of the contract so we seek a candidate with flexibility to be away for long periods. 

Role Responsibilities
Tour Leaders are in charge on location and responsible for leading the successful day-to-day running of our trips in Europe and ensuring our guests have a tour experience to remember. The role will involve managing a team of British and local guides. 

Main Duties
The main duties a candidate be responsible for: 

  • Confidently guiding groups on the bike and/or in vehicles. 
  • Adapting to the abilities and expectations of each different group of guests. 
  • Entertaining guests and ensuring their safety out on the road. 
  • Preparation of food, maps and other tour materials. 
  • Liaising with hotel management, restaurants and other service partners. 
  • Organising and performing Airport transfers. 
  • Transporting and maintaining guests’ bikes safely. 
  • Ensuring the smooth running of each tour day through preparation and flexibility. 
  •  

Essential Skills 

  • Fluency in English 
  • Full, clean, driving license – please note we cannot consider applicants without a license 
  • Clear travel visa for the UK and Europe 
  • Bicycle maintenance and repair to a high standard 
  • Good level of fitness and strong bike riding skills 
  • Experience in leading and managing groups of up to 15 people 
  • Must show initiative and be capable of working with minimal supervision 
  • Ability to adapt to last minute changes and find effective solutions 
  • Ability to work under pressure, to strict deadlines 
  • Strong inter-personal, communication and presentation skills with attention to detail 
  • Familiarity with popular cycling areas and road riding in Europe 

Bonus skills: 

  • Foreign language skills (French/Italian especially) 
  • Prior experience in luxury hospitality 
  • Any qualifications in First Aid

This job is no walk in the park, our days begin before guest breakfast making sure everything is prepared and run right through to after dinner making sure every guest is cared for and knows what to expect.

Our main priority is to provide top end service and satisfaction, so if you can lead a group over mountains, think on your feet and entertain clients over dinner then this could be the role for you.

You will be on location during the majority of the course of your contract so we seek a candidate with flexibility to be away for long periods. If you wish there will be ongoing training to become a tour manager.
