The northern part of the French Alps are home to some beautiful and empty climbs. All the road traffic takes the main highways leaving the Colombiere, Roselend, Madeleine and almost empty except for happy cyclists from around the world. On this four night raid we start close to Geneva and ride the Colombiere, Roselend, Iseran, Lacets, Madeleine& more. Over a long weekend this is a classic climbers route in the Alps. We have options for early arrival on Wednesday and late departure on Sunday to add two more rides packing in 5 great Alpine rides into one long weekend.
Real Rider Reviews
Quickly become an Alpine classic following it's recent inclusion in the Tour, the Lacets de Montvernier squeezes 17 hairpins into 2.5km (as reference, Alpe d'Huez has 21 over 12km). Empty of cars this is a climbers paradise!
The Cormet de Roselend is one of the most stunning climbs in the Alps with amazing views and a thrilling descent. We also go over 1,900m three times (Roselend, Iseran & Madeleine) so expect some long climbs.
The road traffic in the Alps sticks on the main roads so the cols like the Madeleine are just for us. This long ascent is what the Alps are all about, incredible views, lush meadows and great road surfaces.
One of the prettiest places in France, Lake Annecy is surrounded by mountains and offers picture postcard views. We finish here with an optional ride the following day over the great local climbs.
On arrival day we have an optional early transfer for anyone wanting a bonus ride on the Wednesday. The same applies for the Sunday where we offer a late transfer for anyone wanting to ride on this day too. Our main rides are:
Thursday: Sconzier to Bourg St Maurice - 108km, 3900m over the Colombiere, Aravis & Roselend.
Friday: Bourg St Maurice to St Jean de Maurienne - 123km, 2400m over the highest point of the trip, the Col de l'Iseran
Saturday: St Jean de Maurienne to Lake Annecy - 108km, 2800m over the Lacets & Madeleine
On Wednesday our optional ride takes in the Col de Ramaz and Joux Plane in a loop ride from our base in Sconzier (choice of 50km or 110km rides).
On Sunday we run an optional ride from Lake Annecy (90km).
Our four night break starts on Wednesday and the main rides are Thursday, Friday and Saturday. We move hotels each day, our team will take your bags from reception and they will be in the next hotel before you arrive.
Arrival day. Choose between arriving early in Geneva (by 10.30) and joining us for a warm up ride over the Ramaz & Joux Plane or come later and our mechanics will get your bike set up for the first big ride tomorrow.
The Queen Stage. From the gun we are climbing starting with the delightful Col de la Colombiere. After the descent to le Grand Bornand we hit the Aravis and then head to Beaufort for lunch. From here we go over the Cormet de Roselend before descending to our stop for the night in Bourg St Maurice.
An "easier" day after the Queen Stage. The main challenge of the day is the long and stunning Col de l'Iseran, the highest paved pass in Europe. From here we descend and then follow the Maurienne valley to our next stop in St Jean.
A classic day in the Alps. Out of St Jean we take on the iconic Lacets de Montvernier with it's 17 hairpins in 2.5km. From here we join the Col de la Madeleine and then the Tamie to our finish on the shores of Lake Annecy.
Departure day. Choose between an early transfer home to get back in the morning or join us for one last ride over the Col de la Croix Fry & hitting some gravel on the Glieres.
Our team will be in arrivals waiting for you. We run two transfers on Wednesday and Sunday so you can either maximise your riding time or get back to your family for a full day on Sunday.
The drive to Sconzier takes approx 45 minutes.
The transfer from Lake Annecy takes approx 1 hour on Sunday.
Our four night breaks include return airport transfers, accommodation, breakfast, dinners and all your ride support. Our average group size is 8-12 and we have a road guide and mechanic in a support van to guide you on all the rides. Choose between a single room or twin / double package for two people.
