Ride Notes

Join us and the expert coaches from Rowe & King for a classic training camp in the cycling paradise of Mallorca. An ideal way to start your cycling season with some early season miles in the sunshine and coaching points to help you through the year. Each day you will join one of two speed groups matched best to your ability and follow our ride leaders over the best routes on the island. We spend some time improving our cycling skills including group riding, chaingangs, lead outs, climbing & descending.
At each ride we have mechanics following in support vans to help with any mechanicals and regular feed stops where you can grab more water, bars & fruit. We stop in a cafe for lunch and then all eat dinner together at the hotel. The camps are designed to improve your riding, set you up for a great year and enjoy a social week in the sunshine.

Real Rider Reviews

Route Overview

We have two speed options each day and operate on a no drop basis. On the flat sections we practice our group riding and chaingangs. In the hills we work on climbing and descending. Our guides are all Mallorca experts and may adjust routes during the week if needed.

Climbs at Mallorca Training Camp

Sa Calobra

Sa Calobra is considered Mallorca’s toughest climb. It is best avoided during the hotter hours when there is heavy footfall from tourists. We recommend cycling the route either early in the morning or later in the day. Sa Calobra offers a steady 7% gradient for the majority of the climb, allowing you to find your rhythm. Did we mention that orange juice and cake is available at the top of the climb?

Ride Distance 9.5km
Elevation Gain 7%
KOM  24 mins 54 secs

Puig Major (Soller)

This is the longest climb available on the island and has so much to offer. Experience exquisite valley views while enjoying gentle gradients ranging between 5% and 7%. There is a flat section mid-way through so you can mentally prepare for the more challenging section towards the end. Enjoy winding up the mountain, cycling through a tunnel (there is lighting inside, but you may want to bring your own lights as the tunnel is also open to motorists) and coming out the other end to an explosion of stunning views on either side of the pathway.

Mallorca Training Camp Cycling Itinerary

Our 7 day / 6 night camp runs from Monday 30th March to April 5th.

Day One Monday

Coffee Spin

Our mechanic is at the hotel to help build bikes and to fit rentals. For those that want a coffee spin, we run a short 30km spin to Pollensa and back. In the evening we have our welcome meal at 7.30 where our guides will talk through the week.

Ride Distance 30 km.
Elevation Gain 250 m.

Day Two Tuesday

Petra or Randa

Everyday we have two route choices in the same area of the island. Today is all about getting our legs ready for the week ahead and is a flat day exploring the beautiful middle of Mallorca. The shorter option is 70km to Sineu and Petra and the longer option is 110km going down to Randa with one climb, the stunning Puig Randa with views across the entire island.

Ride Distance 70 km.
Elevation Gain 600 m.

Day Three Wednesday

Soller / Puig Major

Into the mountains for the first time. The long ride is 138km of classic climbs. We start with the beautiful Col d'Honor and then the Col de Soller before taking on the longest climb on the island - Puig Major. Three of the best climbs in Mallorca. The shorter ride is 110km including the Col d'Honor.

Ride Distance 110 km.
Elevation Gain 950 m.

Day Four Thursday

Sa Calobra

Both groups do the same route today just at different speeds. The ride centres on the toughest climb on the island: Sa Calobra. We leave a bit earlier than normal and ride to Selva before going up past Lluc to the top of Sa Calobra before the road gets busy with traffic. After a thrilling descent it's a big effort back up and then a lovely descent to lunch in Port de Pollensa and home.

Ride Distance 113 km.
Elevation Gain 2265 m.

Day Five Friday

An easier day sandwiched between three big rides. We ride all together at a relaxed pace along the coast and then take on one easy climb up to the hermitage at Betlem before spinning home via the inland route. Then a nice relaxed afternoon by the pool or beach before the big ride tomorrow.

Ride Distance 95 km.
Elevation Gain 1091 m.

Day Six Saturday

Queen Stage: Andratx to Port d'Alcudia

The Queen Stage. One of the world's best one day rides following the Ma-10 all the way from Andratx to Port d'Alcudia along the coast and over four climbs. We leave the hotel at 8am and get a transfer down to the start. We have feed stations set up along the way and our guides will set a relaxed pace to make this day perfect.

Ride Distance 123 km.
Elevation Gain 2790 m.

Day Seven Sunday

Cap Formentor

Before we leave, an early morning spin to the cafe at Cap Formentor. A classic Mallorcan route on rolling terrain with some spectacular scenery.

Ride Distance 60 km.
Elevation Gain 1170 m.
