Long Route 170km 4700m 5/5

Today’s logistics depend on the route of the 2023 Etape du Tour. In 2022 the start was in Briancon and the finish in Alpe d’Huez so we offered a transfer to the start. In previous years we have also seen the Etape follow a circular route with the start and the finish within easy reach which is obviously the ideal situation.

Below is an overview of the 2022 logistics.
– Transfer to the start in Briancon
– You can take a rucksack with you today which can be collected back this evening in Alpe d’Huez
– After you finish in Alpe d’Huez, simply roll or walk over to your hotel
– Assistance with re-packing bikes for travel
– In the evening we organised a party night at Smithy’s Tavern in Alpe d’Huez

Day Four : Departure Day

This morning we will offer our optional transfer back to the nearest airport. If you book these transfers with us, we advise you not to book any flights that are too early as it will be a mega early start (depends on location of the Etape in 2023).

The route of the 2023 Etape du Tour will be announced at the same time as the 2023 Tour de France route in October 2022. Be the first to book and have your first pick of the best hotels with Sportive Breaks

Every year one of the toughest mountain stages of the Tour de France is selected to be that year’s Etape du Tour. In 2019 the stage was Albertville to Val Thorens and in 2022 the stage was Briancon to Alpe d’Huez. Please find details below and scroll down to see our full route recce and review narrated by Eurosport commentator Brian Smith.

The route for the 2022 Etape du Tour replicates stage 12 of the 2022 Tour de France and also the famous stage from the 1986 Tour de France where Hinault and Lemond battled it out and finished hand in hand. This is quite possibly the toughest Etape du Tour ever. Its route is very similar to the route of another famous sportive, the Marmotte but in reverse.
