Tour Overview

Orwell Wheelers Etape

The worlds most famous sportive followed by three classic days of riding in the Alps culminating with watching the Tour on the Galibier. The trip is in two parts. Starting in Savoie, our team will help set your bikes up and then lead a warm up ride before a pre Etape brief detailing best tips and strategies for the sportive. On the Sunday there will be an early transfer to the start and you will then see us on the course at a private feed station.
For those staying for the week, we have a rest day followed by three of the best rides in the Alps. First up is a ride over the Madeleine, Telegraph & Galibier to our new base in Briancon. Then we head to Alpe d'Huez to take on the Sarenne & Alpe before finishing with the Izoard & Galibier where the trip concludes with beers and a picnic watching the Tour.

Sportive Weekend Highlights

Sportive Weekend Highlights

  • Ride the Etape du Tour

There is no feeling quite like finishing the Etape. Ride with people from all over the world, a peloton of 15,000 international riders. This year the sportive replicated the final stage of the Tour and looks like being a tough one!

  • Classic Alps Climbs

After the Etape, take a well earned rest day and then we have back to back to back classic Alpine rides taking in the Madeleine, Telegraph, Galibier, Sarenne, Alpe d'Huez and Izoard.

  • Watch the Tour on the Galibier

Probably the most famous of all climbs in the Alps, the Galibier is one of the highest passes in Europe and will be decisive in the Tour. We set up base here for beers and a picnic to watch the race go by.

Frequently Asked Questions

Getting There

Flights are in and out of Geneva. The first transfer is around 90 minutes and coming back from Briancon is closer to 3 hours.

Documents Required

For the Etape you must have a signed medical certificate to collect your race pack. We will send a template. You will also need to sign up for an account with ASO (the event organisers) and print off a form with your race number. We will send reminders of all this before you leave.

What to Pack

A week in the mountains where the weather is always likely to change. We go over 2,000m a lot so bring layers (arm warmers, gilet, lightweight jackets). You can leave extra layers in the support van. We recommend bringing a spare rear hanger as these are hard to source and can damage in transit.
