The 2024 UCI Gravel World Championships with Sportive Breaks

The 2024 UCI Gravel World Championships will be in Leuven, Belgium on Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 October 2024. You can qualify and try to win the rainbow jersey in your age group by qualifying in the top 25% at Seven in WA or any other event in the 2024 UCI Gravel World Series.

The UCI Gravel World Series is a series of qualifier events in different countries that allows amateur cyclists to qualify for the World Championship by finishing in the top 25% in their age category.  The UCI Gravel World Championships first took place in 2022 with a stellar field of pro cyclists sharing the start line with amateur riders. The women elite race on Saturday 5th October 2024 while the men elite have their race on Sunday 6th October 2024. All races start in Halle and finish in Leuven.

Amateur and masters’ riders can race together with the pros. They start in later waves as they battle it out for a world title in their respective age groups.

Women age groups and men over 50 race on Saturday while men of the age groups 19 to 49 start behind the men elite on Sunday.

Sportive Breaks and the UCI Gravel World Championships

Sportive Breaks was the official travel partner for the 2023 UCI Gran Fondo World Championships in Perth, Scotland. Our host will be experienced race director Rowland Summerlin. Rowland was the race director for the 2023 UCI Gran Fondo Worlds in Perth and for the now-defunct Tour of Cambridgeshire. He is currently the race director for the UCI Gravel World Series event the Gralloch and is experienced as ‘Chef de Mission’ for Team GB age group world championships. Rowland will again fulfil this role for Sportive Breaks in Aalborg, Cyprus and also in Leuven for the 2024 UCI Gravel World Championships. In Leuven, Rowland is on hand to answer all questions you may have on the world championships.

Please make your own arrangements to arrive at our hotel in Leuven today or make use of our airport paid scheduled transfers. For an additional charge, we provide a transfer service from Brussels Airport. We will welcome you at the airport and your coach will be waiting outside the terminal. We will also transport your bike in its box or bag.

Our hotel
The hotel is a 3* hotel in Leuven near the finish. Your stay includes breakfast. The hotel has secure bike storage and free Wi-Fi.

What about my bike?
Your bike can be safely stored at the hotel. Our mechanic will be available this afternoon at the hotel to assist you with building your own bike after travel.

Day Two : Guided warm up ride and race briefing

After breakfast and any final bike adjustments, we will take you on a supported, guided ride exploring the course.

After the ride, please make your way to the event expo to collect your race pack and attend the technical briefing for tomorrow’s event.

Event Registration

You must register for the event and collect your race pack. The registration venue is near the start line in Halle, in the Cultural Center Vondel.

Registration is possible today from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM.

There is a regular direct train from outside our hotel to Halle.

Registration will also be possible tomorrow morning, but we advise you to register today to avoid having to rush.

Day Three: Women's Elite, Women's age groups and Men over 50s

Today is the day! We have an early start this morning. Early breakfasts are arranged in the hotel restaurants.

Getting to the start
As we are staying in Leuven, we offer transport to the start in Halle. Our team will be available this morning if you have any last-minute mechanical issues, or if you need any other assistance.

Getting back from the finish

The finish is in Leuven so near the hotel. It is possible to ride back after you finish but our team will be present at the finish should anyone require any assistance.

Start times in Halle – 12:00 onwards

Podium ceremonies at the finish

These will take place between 14:30 – 17:30 in Leuven, just a short walk from our hotel.

Registration for Sunday’s race

For men up to 49 years old racing tomorrow, registration is near the start line in Halle, in the Cultural Center Vondel.

Registration is possible today from 08:00 to 16:00.

There is a regular direct train from outside our hotel to Halle.

Today is the day! We have an early start this morning. Early breakfasts are arranged in the hotel restaurant. Registration is possible this morning in Halle from 8:00 – 10:00 AM, but we strongly advise riders to register on Saturday.

As we are staying in Leuven we offer transport to Halle. Our team will be available this morning if you have any last-minute mechanical issues, or if you need any other assistance.

Getting back from the finish

The finish is in Leuven so ride back to your hotel. It is possible to ride back after you finish but our team will be present at the finish should anyone require any assistance.

The Radisson Park inn hotel is located in the centre of Leuven right beside the central station. The train from Brussels airport takes 15 minutes.

All rooms have free high-speed WiFi, air conditioning and flatscreen TVs. There is a fitness centre on site for guests to use. There are plenty of restaurants near by for you to choose from or the hotel has a Bar and Grill serving a selection of meals including steaks, burgers and pasta.

The hotel also has underground parking for guests.

2023 UCI Gravel World Championships

In 2023 the event was held in Italy. In the Women Elite category on Saturday, Kasia Niewiadoma took the rainbow jersey with an epic solo attack 20KM from the finish.

In the Men’s Elite Race on Sunday 8 October, the big names from other cycling disciplines like Wout Van Aert, Matej Mohoric , Cameron Mason and Florian Vermeersch were all there to battle for the finish line. In the end, Slovenian rider Matej Mohoric took the win. 

Each UCI Gravel World Series event of the 2023-2024 seasons grants qualification rights for the 2023 UCI Gravel World Championships. Events Calendar available here. Based on the results of each race, the first 25% of athletes in each age group will be qualified for the UCI Gravel World Championships. The 25% is calculated based on the number of starters in each age group, and not on the number of riders having finished the race. In addition, the first three riders of each official age category will qualify directly for the UCI Gravel World Championships, independently of the number of starters in that age group.
