The 2025 Etape du Tour de France will take place on Sunday 20 July 2025 departing from Albertville in the Savoie region of France. The stage of the 2025 Tour de France that has been chosen is Stage 19 which takes place on Friday 25 July between Albertville and the ski resort of La Plagne.
The route of the 33rd edition of L’Étape du Tour de France, which will be held on 20 July 2025 is identical to 19 of the Tour de France, between Albertville and the ski town of La Plagne. The route is 131km (80 miles) long with 4,500 metres of ascent and includes the climbs of the Col d’Hery-sur-Ugine, Col des Saisies, Col du Pré, Cormet de Roselend and finally the ascent to the ski resort of La Plagne.
The Tour de France has previously visited La Plagne on four occasions, most recently in 2002, although the most famous stage finish here was undoubtedly the 1987 showdown between Stephen Roche and Pedro Delgado. More recently, the Col du Pré – Cormet de Roselend – La Plagne sequence was used in the 2021 Critérium du Dauphiné.
The 2025 edition of L’Étape du Tour de France promises to include some great climbs and some spectacular scenery, so you should prepare rigorously for the challenge that lies ahead.

2025 Etape du Tour - Albertville to La Plagne

2025 Etape du Tour
Sportive Breaks offer guaranteed entry without the need to wait for the entry system to open. We offer hotel packages for 3 nights with a selection of hotels at the start in Albertville or close to the finish area in the valley towns of La Lechere and Brides Les Bains so you are perfectly placed for the start and finish of the 2025 Etape. 2025 Etape du Tour route
Every year one of the stages of the Tour de France is chosen to be the ‘Etape du Tour de France’. This allows amateur riders their opportunity to ride a genuine Tour de France stage under professional race conditions. This means that there are closed roads, a time schedule, cut-off times, feed stations and a Tour de France atmosphere.
The Etape du Tour is one of the world’s toughest amateur cycling events. During the event you ride the exact same route as the riders of the Tour de France just days later. The 2025 Etape du Tour will take place in Albertville on Sunday 20 July. The start is in Albertville and the finish is in the ski town of La Plagne, located approximately 50km to the southeast of Albertville and at a elevation of 1,900m. Stage 19 of the 2025 Tour de France is 130km long, with 4 main climbs; Cote d’Hery-sur-Ugine, Col des Saisies, Col du Pré – Cormet de Roselend and La Plagne.
The finish is situated in La Plagne. To reach the finish line of the Etape you will need to conquer the final 18km climb, averaging 7.5%. The last few kilometres are especially demanding as you approach La Plagne Village. The gradient increases slightly here, and fatigue from the day and the final climb may have set in, but the reward of the crowds at the finish line and the stunning views of the surrounding mountains will push you through to the end!

We offer airport transfers from Geneva Airport today which will be available to book alongside our packages. If you are travelling by car, we will advise of the hotels with the best parking facilities.
What about my bike?
You can bring your own bike as you can store it safely at the hotel. You can also rent a bike with us for the weekend. Our mechanic will be available this afternoon and early evening at your hotel to assist you with fitting your rental bike or building your own bike after travel.
If you arrive early, there is time to collect your race number from the Expo and avoid the Saturday crowds. Please note: we do not offer organised transport to the Expo for Albertville hotels.
An evening meal is included at our Half Board hotel. If your hotel offers Bed & Breakfast, your evening is free to eat in one of Albertville’s many restaurants.
Group airport transfers
Today we offer regular group airport transfers from Geneva Airport (1h45 approx.) and private transfers on request from Lyon (1hr45 approx). When you make your booking, you can include the Geneva Airport group transfer in your package. Please book a flight that arrives at least 1 hour before your transfer time.

Saturday: Preparation Day
After breakfast and any necessary bike mechanical work, we will take you on a supported, guided ride.
We’ll be back at the hotel in the afternoon for you to rest and get prepared for tomorrow. You can visit the Expo today to collect your race number.
The evening is free for you to eat at your hotel or eat out at a local restaurant. This evening, our bike guides will do a race briefing, to talk you through the Etape day logistics and the route.
Expo Visit & Number Collection
Our hotels in Albertville are conveniently located for a visit to the Expo to collect your entry. Traditionally the Expo and bib collection is available on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Opening timings will be confirmed soon.
Sunday: The 2025 Etape du Tour
We have an early start this morning. Early breakfast is arranged in your hotel.
The Etape du Tour start is done in waves. You will be allocated a start pen and start time, along with a time that you must enter your start pen. Please note that Sportive Breaks has no influence on start pens or timings.
Start Location
Please make your own way to the start today. The exact start location is yet to be confirmed in Albertville but we expect the ride to the start should be no longer than about 10 – 15 minutes.
The 2025 Etape du Tour
Now is the time you have been training for! You can enjoy the ride and the rewarding challenges that it will bring with it as you make your way towards the finish line in La Plagne.
With Sportive Breaks you can make the most of two private feed stations on the route where you can take on board nutrition and real food options.
The Etape du Tour has various cut-off points. You need to have passed each cut-off point at a certain time, otherwise you will be eliminated from the race. If you’re eliminated, your bike will go on a bike trailer to the finish, and you will be taken to the finish by bus.
After you finish
We offer a return transfer shuttle from Aime back to Albertville. Following the completion of the Etape, please descend the 18km from the mountain finish in La Plagne, back to the town of Aime at the foot of La Plagne, where we will welcome you at our Sportive Breaks Hub. We will have food, drink, and a massage waiting for you.
This service can be booked and includes transport for you and your bike which will go onto a special bike trailer.
Please be aware: there may be a wait at our hub as we wait for other riders to arrive, and we fill up our coaches to get you back to Albertville. While you are waiting you can choose to get a massage or enjoy some food and drinks in a restaurant specially for Sportive Breaks guests, all payable locally.
Monday: Departure Day
After breakfast we offer our optional transfers back to Gevena Airport at set times listed below;

- 08:00am departure – for flights departing after 13:00pm

The evening dinner is provided at your hotel.

This morning, our mechanics are on hand if you require any assistance with your bike.
Early this afternoon, we will take you on a supported, guided ride from your hotel to the start town of Albertville. From here you will be able to visit the expo, collect your race bibs and prepare your bikes for tomorrow’s Etape du Tour. ASO, the organisers of the Etape de Tour, provide secure bike storage so you will be able to safely rack your bike here in preparation for tomorrow. We will then provide a shuttle back to your hotel where you will be able to rest and get prepared for tomorrow. Please note that you must drop your bike in Albertville today. There will be no bike transport on Sunday morning.
In all hotels, this evening, our bike guides will do a race briefing, to talk you through the Etape day logistics and the route.

This morning we will transfer you to the start of the 2025 Etape du Tour.

Hotel Base Camp Lodge is located in Bourg Saint Maurice at 5 minutes walk to the train station and just a short walk into the village with all its amenities. Bourg has an outdoor pool and it is just a short ride on a riverside bike bath to get back here after you finish the Etape du Tour. Breakfast and dinner are included including an early breakfast on Etape du Tour day. Bikes can be safely stored at the hotel.

From here you will be able to visit the expo, collect your race bibs and prepare your bikes for tomorrow’s Etape du Tour. We will then provide a shuttle back to your hotel where you will be able to rest and get prepared for tomorrow.
The ride is about 60km along the valley to Albertville. For those who do not want to ride we also provide a transfer today. You must bring your bike with you today to Albertville as it will be stored there overnight on Saturday. Bikes cannot be transported on the morning of the Etape du Tour.

If you are interested in cycling the most famous Sportive in the world, book your place on the Etape du Tour and ride the Queen stage of the 2025 Tour de France. The 2025 route will once again include awesome climbs in one of the world’s best cycling regions.
The first Etape du Tour took place in 1993, allowing amateur cyclists the opportunity to race over the same ground as the pros during the Tour de France. The roads are closed during this Sportive, and refreshment stops can be expected along the way, replicating stage two of the Tour de France in every possible way. Our team on the ground are local to the area and have years of experience to ensure that you get the most out of your Etape du Tour experience with us.
The first Etape was in 1993. There is now an international series of Etape du Tour events all over the world – L’Étape by Tour de France (letapebytourdefrance.com)
Pau in the Pyrenees has been visited by the Etape du Tour most often, but the last time the Etape du Tour took place in the Pyrenees was in 2014. The organisers have chosen the Alps due to its commercial success the last few years.
The longest Etape was in 2011 from Issoire to St Flour. A few years ago there were two Etapes per year; one in the Alps and one in the Pyrenees.
2020 and 2021
The 2020 and 2021 editions did not take place due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

2022 Etape du Tour
The 30th edition of the “Étape du Tour de France” took place on July 10 2022 following the stage 12 route of the Tour de France, between Briançon and Alpe d’Huez. It was one of the toughest Etapes yet with 170km and 4,670m of elevation gain. In one big day out, riders ticked-off some exquisite high-mountain passes like Col du Galibier (2,642m), La Croix de Fer (1,850m), Col du Lautaret (2,058m), finishing it all off on the iconic Alpe d’Huez.
The 2022 route was based on the legendary Briançon-Alpe d’Huez stage of 1986, where team mates Greg LeMond and Bernard Hinault rode victoriously over the finish line, shoulder-to-shoulder at Alpe d’Huez.
2023 Etape du Tour
The 31st edition of the Étape du Tour took place on 9 July 2023. The course followed the same route as stage 14 of the 2023 Tour de France. The 152km route started in Annemasse and finished in Morzine Les Portes du Soleil. The course took in 4,100 metres of elevation gain and included the climbs of Col de Saxel, Col de Cou, Col de Feu, Col de la Ramaz and Col de Joux Plane.
2024 Etape du Tour
The 2024 Étape du Tour was one of the most challenging in its history, taking place on July 7 2024. The event mirrored Stage 20 of the 2024 Tour de France, featured a 138km route that climbed nearly 4,600 metres through the stunning landscapes of the Alpes-Maritimes near Nice. Cyclists faced four major climbs including Col de Braus (1,002m), Col de Turini (1,607m), Col de la Colmiane (1,500m) and finally the Col de la Couillole (1,678m), the final mountain-top finish.
The date was changed last minute due to French elections.
Even though slightly shorter than the 2023 Etape, this was a tough stage with 4,600 metres of climbing over the 138-kilometre route.
