Events on the Road!

From 9th to 11th August, Stirling will be hosting the individual Time Trial, that will see the Men’s and Women Elite, Men and Women Junior and Men U23 take a course through this historic city in Scotland. 

Also known as the “Race of Truth” as winning depends on each riders strength as well as mental strength and endurance. Ultimately the fastest rider is the winner and they will earn the right to wear the sought after Rainbow Jersey! 

On 8th August, Glasgow will be hosting the Team Time Trail Mixed Relay. Mixed team relay consists of 3 men and 3 women, the men will take the course first and only when the men have done their lap can the women leave the start. Once the second women has crossed the line, the clock is stopped. 

More About the Event

The 2023 UCI Gran Fondo World Championships will take place in Glasgow and Scotland. the venues for the two events will be confirmed at a later date.  The event brings together qualifying cyclists from all over the world. The winner in each age group will have the honour of wearing the coveted rainbow jersey for a year as official UCI Gran Fondo world champion.

Launched in 2011, the UCI Gran Fondo World Series (formerly known as the UCI World Cycling Tour) is a series of UCI-sanctioned road races held all over the world. Throughout the 2022-2023 season, a series of events will qualify the top 20% in each age group for the UCI Gran Fondo World Championships. The age group winners of the UCI Gran Fondo World Championships are awarded the UCI rainbow jersey. The qualifier events are open to riders of all levels: those who aim to make the podium and others who wish to cross the finish line in the best possible time.  For more information: http://www.ucigranfondoworldseries.com/

The Gran Fondo and Medio Fondo take place on Friday 4th August 2023 with a route that starts and finishes in a location to be confirmed in Scotland. The Time Trial takes place on Monday 7th August in a location TBC.

2023 UCI Cycling World Championships

In the first event of its kind – never seen nor cycled before – the world’s greatest riders will come together in Glasgow and across Scotland this August to compete over thirteen world championships.

Track Cycling

Enjoy the atmosphere at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome in Glasgow. Take your seat track side and be there for the various disciplines of the fast and furious sport of track cycling.

MTB Downhill

The stunning surroundings of Nevis Range and Fort William also provide an awe-inspiring backdrop for both athletes and visiting spectators from around the world.

BMX Racing

BMX Racing heads to the Glasgow BMX Centre in Knightswood, where fans will see the world’s best compete in high-speed sprint races across a purpose-built racetrack.

Road Races

The city’s  famous George Square will play host to the finish line of the road cycling events. The roads and landmarks around the city will showcase the exciting event which traditionally attracts huge crowds of spectators. 

Time Trials

Stirling will provide the stage for some of the world’s best cyclists after being announced as the 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships time trial venue as part of the biggest cycling event ever held.

MTB Marathon and Cross Country

The variety of technical terrain at Glentress will challenge even the most seasoned MTB Marathon and Cross Country riders.

BMX Freestyle and Parkland

Kelvingrove Park will be packed with action as it welcomes cycling’s newest Olympic discipline, BMX Freestyle Park as well as BMX Freestyle Flatland and trials.

Para Road Races and Time Trials

The world’s best para-cyclists take on Scotland’s roads in Dumfries and Galloway, on the road and time trials.

Artistic Cycling and Cycle-Ball

The Emirates Arena will come alive with cycling’s awe-inspiring disciplines of artistic cycling and cycle-ball.

Trails

Riders hop, hook and wheel jump their way up, down and over purpose-built obstacles designed to test the extremes of bicycle-based agility and technical skill.
