The Marmotte is one of the best-known and toughest Sportives in Europe. The full route has 5000m climbing and 174km of distance. After the start in Bourg d’Oisans, the route goes over the Col du Glandon. After a stretch on the flat in the Maurienne valley to St Michel de Maurienne, next up are the Col du Telegraphe and the Col du Galibier. After the Galibier there’s a lot of downhill as you descend the Col du Lautaret back to Bourg d’Oisans.

Dinner will be at the hotel in the evening.

Today you will ride the epic Alpe d’Huez. Probably one of the most famous climbs in cycling and used many times in the Tour de France. With 21 hairpin turns to conquer, this is no easy day out but it will all be worth it when you reach the top!

The route today will take us up the Col du Sarenne, to the east of Alpe d’Huez. It featured on stage 18 of the 2013 Tour de France to allow riders to climb Alpe d’Huez twice.  After the main climb we will follow a loop round towards Le Bourg-d’Oisans, followed by a flat road back towards the hotel with a short climb up to the resort.

In the evening we will enjoy a final meal together and celebrate our achievements throughout the week.

Today’s ride: 95km. Elevation: 2800m

After breakfast we will have a gentle warm down ride in the valley to Allemond, stopping in Bourg for a coffee and a slice of French patisserie.

We will then run a transfer back to Geneva airport.

More About the Event

Come and join us in the French Alps, a cycling paradise and experience a weekend like the pro peloton! You will be looked after by Mike, our local ride leader who has a wealth of experience and has ridden these routes many times. He will be on hand with you for the duration of the trip.

Alpe d’Huez

One of the most iconic climbs of the Tour de France and of cycling in general. The 21 hairpin bends up to the ‘Ile au Soleil’ are on every cyclist’s bucket list. A popular ski resort in the winter, the resort turns into a cycling mecca in the summer. Apart from the Etape and the Tour, other events in June/ July include: the Haute Route Alpe d’Huez, the Marmotte Gran Fondo Alps, the Megavalanche and the Alpe d’Huez Triathlon.
Alpe d’Huez last featured in the Tour de France in 2022.  Tom Pidcock from Ineos Grenadiers became the youngest ever winner on the mythical Alpe d’Huez with a sensational solo win on Stage 12.
For training, Alpe du Zwift on Zwift is a fairly accurate representation of the climb so ideal to get stuck into over the winter!
