Itinerary

Day To Day

Upon arrival

Please make your own way to Hotel Grums in Barcelona today. From here, we will board a transfer that will take you to St Hilari Sacalm (outskirts of Girona). Once we arrive, you will have time to unpack your bike or if you have rented one, you will have time to set it up and then we will start our first ride, to Hotel Cuitat de Girona. This will be a gentle ride, warming you up for the rest of the week.

The transfer from Hotel Grums to St Hilari Sacalm will depart at 10:00am

Distance: 50km

Our hotel

We are staying at Hotel Cuitat de Girona, situated in the heart of the city. The hotel is booked on a Half Board basis, with breakfasts and evening meals included, which are tailored towards a cyclists nutritional requirement. You will also have free access to the secure bike store.

Breakfast will be available at the hotel today, followed by our first ride.

Starting in central Girona, the ride heads north toward Lake Banyoles, a stunning tectonic crater formed 250,000 years ago alongside the Pyrenees. Famous for hosting the rowing events at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, the lake offers breathtaking views- but first, there’s a challenge to conquer: Rocacorba. This climb has become a proving ground for professional cyclists, who use it to assess their form. The ascent stretches 13.5 km with an average gradient of 6%, but the real test lies in the final 5 km, where the road kicks up with relentless double-digit gradients, demanding everything from those who take it on.

Distance: 82.5km

Hotel: Hotel Ciutat de Girona

This afternoon you are free to enjoy the hotel’s facilities and you will have the evening meal at the hotel.

Breakfast will be available at the hotel today, followed by our second ride. Please ensure you have packed up your luggage, as we will be changing location to Hotel Mediterrani in Calella de Palafrugell.

Today’s ride takes you through the rolling hills south of Girona, leading toward the stunning Mediterranean coastline. Along the way, you will tackle two climbs, each ranging between 3-7 km with an average gradient of 6%, which is challenging yet manageable. Between these ascents, a breathtaking 10 km stretch along the coast guides you to Sant Feliu de Guixols. As the route winds through peaceful backroads, the final approach reveals your first glimpse of the beach in Calella de Palafrugell. This charming coastal town, with its secluded coves and inviting waters, offers a true taste of the authentic Costa Brava experience.

Distance: 85km

Hotel: Hotel Mediterrani in Calella de Palafrugell.

This afternoon and evening you are free to enjoy the hotel’s facilities and explore the local cuisine. An evening meal will not be provided at the hotel tonight.

Breakfast will be available at the hotel today, followed by our third ride.

The ride begins straight from the hotel, leading you through the charming village of Peratallada, where stunning medieval architecture sets the scene. From there, the route heads toward the Les Gavarres mountains, taking on the climb to the Els Àngels Monastery. A favorite among local cyclists, this 5.5 km ascent averages a 6.5% gradient, with the steepest sections reaching a challenging 11%. After the summit, a sweeping descent brings you into Monells, a picturesque medieval town nestled in the Baix Empordà  region. The final stretch back to the hotel follows beautifully paved roads, filled with rolling terrain that keeps the ride dynamic and engaging.

Distance: 96.5km

Hotel: Hotel Mediterrani in Calella de Palafrugell

This afternoon you are free to enjoy the hotel’s facilities and there will be no evening meal at the hotel, so you have the opportunity to explore the local area again and have time to yourself.

Breakfast is available once again today at the hotel. Please have your luggage packed and ready to go, as we will be moving hotel.

Today’s ride serves as a transitional stage, covering 70km of relatively flat terrain as we make our way to our next hotel, where we’ll stay for two nights. With some challenging days still ahead, this stretch provides the ideal opportunity to build strength and prepare for what’s to come. However, we won’t let you off too easily- there is a short but punchy climb up to the lighthouse overlooking Llafranc to keep things interesting! Tomorrow afternoon, you will have the chance to explore Figueras, the birthplace of Salvador Dali, and visit the museum dedicated to his extraordinary surrealist works.

Distance: 72.5km

Hotel: Hotel Duran, Figueres

Post ride, you will have time to settle into your new hotel, before we will have a group evening meal.

Breakfast will be available at the hotel today as per usual.

A challenging day on the bike now awaits, but it is full of surprises and changing landscapes at every corner. Cycling from the hotel and the climb up to Mare de Deu del Mont at 1085m altitude will be sure to impress. The 360° degree views from our favourite platform on the Costa Brava makes the energy expended well worth it. Mare de Deu del Mont is an 18km climb with an average gradient of 5%. The final 3km though never drop below 10% making it a true cycling test. Riding into Besalu and its spectacular 11th Century medieval bridge will leave a lasting impression on the group. Its seven arches that span the Rio Fluvia have well and truly put Besalu on the map. Late afternoon / early evening you will enjoy your visit to the Salvador Dali museum!

Distance: 82.5km

There will be no evening meal at the hotel tonight, so you are free to make your own plans.

Breakfast is available once again today at the hotel. Please have your luggage packed and ready to go, as we will be moving hotel.

Today marks your penultimate day in the saddle, with a rich adventure of historical significance. Our journey takes us northeast to the low-lying Coll de Banyuls, which stands at 365 meters along the French border. This route gained notoriety during the Spanish Civil War in 1939, when hundreds of thousands of Spaniards fled to France as Franco seized control of Barcelona. As we continue, we’ll wind through the scenic vineyards of the renowned L’Alt Emporda wine region, eventually reaching Peralada. This quaint medieval town boasts a historic old quarter, with its main attraction being the 14th-century Castillo de Peralada. After exploring, it’s just a few easy kilometers to the Gulf of Roses, where we’ll settle into our beachside accommodations for the last two nights!

Distance: 80km

Hotel: Hotel Marina, Roses

This evening, dinner will be available at the hotel.

Breakfast will be available at the hotel again today.

To wrap up what has been an incredible week of cycling, we’ve crafted an exceptional all-rounder route for today. It features three climbs, each ranging from 5 to 8 kilometers in length. Starting from Cadaqués, the ride leads us to the easternmost point of the Iberian Peninsula, with the road winding and dipping through a rugged, rocky terrain. Many past guests consider the highlight to be the arrival at the stunning Benedictine Monastery, where the curving roads and breathtaking coastal views create an unforgettable experience. The climb to Sant Pere de Rodes offers panoramic vistas of the Mediterranean as we ascend!

In true Spanish fashion, we invite you to join us tonight at our favorite paella and fideuá restaurant along the Costa Brava. ¡Buen provecho!

Distance : 75km

Unfortunately today is the day to say goodbye. Once you have eaten breakfast and packed up your luggage, we will have a departure transfer organised for to take you back to Barcelona Airport.

The transfer will depart from the hotel at 09:30am. It will take roughly 2 hours to get to Barcelona Airport, so please book your flights to depart for after 13:30pm.
