Over the years, the Costa Blanca and Calpe in particular has become one of the top training areas, for the pro teams, during the winter months due to the accessibility from major airports such as Valencia and Alicante, the varied (and challenging) landscape, the quality of the roads and the weather. The daytime temperatures here are warm, there’s little rainfall and the terrain provides a choice of training routes to get the heart pumping.
With Sportive Breaks you can now enjoy the same routes, as well as some great restaurants and cafes in and around Calpe, all under your own steam with a self-guided road cycling holiday. This type of trip provides the freedom to explore, without having to get up early to join a group ride with people of different abilities. It allows you to head out at whatever time you like on a ride that suits you for distance, pace, elevation gain and to take in the parts of the area that you want to visit on any particular day.
We’ll provide you with a GPS navigation app with a selection of routes to ride during your stay; whether it’s more leisurely cycling, punchier shorter routes with climbing or something more challenging altogether by heading up into the Sierra de Aitana or Marina Alta mountains. You may even spot some pros out and about while you’re cycling!
You choose how many nights you stay – select your own duration from 4 nights, but if you want to stay for a longer or shorter period of time just let us know and we’ll tailor the trip to your requirements. Full Board, private transfers and bike rental (or e-bikes) can also be included in your tailored package.
Itinerary
Day To Day
On arrival at Alicante Airport, your private transfer or pre-booked shuttle (if included in your booking) will be waiting for you to drive you to your hotel in Calpe – approximately 60 to 90 minutes away respectively. If you’re planning to bring your own bike, this will need to be added to your transfer request and will be transported with you (unless there are 5 or more in your group – in this case the bike transport will be a separate vehicle).
Depending on your arrival and departure times, you may be able to add in some extra cycling time on your arrival and departure days – please ensure you have included enough bike rental time for this if you’re renting a bike to be picked up in Calpe.
It’s entirely up to you how you plan your cycling schedule during your stay. There are plenty of routes that set off from a central point in Calpe, so you can choose your route for each day and when you wish to rest and relax. Below are a few examples of route options:
- Moraira loop – 46km / +750m
- La Vall d’Ebo loop – 93km / +1,710m
- Coll de Rates – 91km / +1,860m
- Pego-Sagra loop – 105km / +1,330
- Puerto de Tudons – 111km / +2,300m
- Puerto de Sa Creueta – 103km / +1,740m
After breakfast your transfer to Alicante takes approximately 60 to 90 minutes.

Perfectly located along the Calpe coast, Diamante Beach Spa Hotel & Convention Centre offers you water sports, golf, and a relaxed life by the sea, in addition to entertainment and gastronomy in an area well known for its extraordinary culinary and social richness.
Your stay here is on a half board basis, so breakfasts and evening meals are included. After each ride you will also have a coffee and tea break with snacks. Every other day you can make use of the cycling kit laundry service.
The Spa is payable locally and offers a variety of thermal circuits, treatment rooms, a fitness centre and more. At the Spa & Wellness Area of Diamante Beach Spa Hotel & Convention Centre you can embark on a journey to well-being accompanied by the soothing sounds of water. Facilities include a Turkish bath, sauna, pool, thematic showers, Jacuzzis.
