Sportive Breaks

Self-guided road cycling trips; everything you need to know

At Sportive Breaks we offer a large and varied range of cycling holidays, from multi-day tours and sportives, to weekenders and charity trips amongst many others. However, if you’re looking for something with a bit more freedom, where there’s no pressure and cyclists of all abilities can take part, maybe a self-guided tour is for you…

What is a self-guided tour?

Self-guided road cycling provides a freedom to explore without having to get up and ready to join a group ride with people of different abilities. It allows you to head out at whatever time you like on a ride that suits you for distance, elevation and to take in the parts of the area you want to visit on any particular day. We’ll provide you with a GPS navigation app with a selection of routes to ride during your stay.

How many nights you stay is also up to you – we have a selection of hotels and durations from 4 to 7 nights, but if you want to stay for a longer or shorter period of time just let us know and we’ll tailor the trip to your requirements. Half Board, private transfers and bike rental (or e-bikes) can also be included in your tailored package.

Self-guided tours are a great opportunity to have the freedom of the roads on your holiday, without the complicated logistical tasks of organising hotels, bike rental and route planning. Once at your hotel and on your bike, you are free to head wherever you want at whatever pace you want, however often you want. Just use the GPS navigation app that gives you all the information you need to know in the palm of your hand.

How do I plan a self-guided tour?

The simple answer is; you don’t! At Sportive Breaks, we can sort all the logistics for you, from accommodation and meals, to airport transfers and bike rental. In addition to that, if something goes wrong on your trip, you’re not alone – we have a team of local experts on hand to contact if you have any mechanical, logistical or geographical problems at any point on your trip.

Are self-guided tours worth it?

Self-guided tours provide a level of flexibility and freedom for cyclists who don’t wish to stick to a specific itinerary. They are also a great way to ride with cyclists of all abilities, offering the perfect opportunity to go on a cycling trip with your family, a group of friends, your club or team-mates.

What’s more, the range of high-end accommodation that we have on offer provides ample opportunity to relax and unwind in beautiful settings. All of our accommodation is excellently located for cycle rides, as well as being conveniently situated for access to tourist hotspots as well.
