Week 3 of the 2025 Tour of Spain will see our tour start and finish in Madrid. The tour will immediately move north to Ponferrada which was home to the 2014 UCI Road World Championships. Get ready for the Stage 17 summit finish and the Stage 18 individual time trial. As the tour moves back towards the Spanish capital, the Guadarrama mountains just to the north of Madrid, will be sure to shape the general classification. Stage 20 will see you test yourselves on the ‘Navacerrada’ climb and the optional pinch up to ‘Bola del Mundo’. La Vuelta race organisers are returning to a more traditional race finish in 2025 which makes for a compact tour program.

We kick off our tour today. Please meet your tour leaders in the Hotel where we will be on hand to assist you in preparing your bikes for the week ahead. Rental bikes are also available on arrival.
If you are travelling with your own bike we have organised storage of your bike bag with the hotel before the tour starts. Check-in to your hotel will be available from 3pm onwards.

Following breakfast there will be a 3hr drive north to Astorga. Astorga is on the Camino de Santiago route and this is a historic road cycling stage.
After a bite for lunch, you will spend the afternoon enjoying a 55km ride through to your hotel in Ponferrada (home for the next 3 nights). Along the way, you will be confronted with the ‘Cruz de Hierro’ climb (Iron Cross). The ride up to the giant ‘Iron Cross’ symbol is a 20km false flat but the final 4km average 5% to the summit.
Since the 11th Century, pilgrims bring a rock and place it at the foot of this impressive cross. The rock is supposed to symbolise their sins and by placing it they become absolved of them. Take in the views of this wild natural landscape before the exhilarating descent down to Molinaseca.
Ponferrada is the end of today’s route. It is a beautiful city which is dominated by the Castle of the Knights Templar.

Climb to the O’Cebreiro hamlet

Today’s ride includes what we believe is the best road cycling of the Camino de Santiago pilgrim route. In particular, the O’Cebreiro climb awaits! This is a Category 1 climb which winds its way 14.5km (4.6% average) up to the O’Cebreiro hamlet. This village is perched on a high ridge and the views down to Galicia are breathtaking! Its thatched huts resemble a hobbit-like setting and the ‘empanadas’ (pastry filled savoury treats) should be sampled here.
As we descend back down towards Ponferrada you will be now riding through the ‘Bierzo’ valley. This wine country comes under its own Denominacion de Origen. The Bierzo wine that is produced here is darker and fruitier than the tempranillo wines from the Rioja and Ribera de Duero regions. We will be sure to introduce you all to the Mencia grape as we dine over a range of Leonese and Galician cuisine.

Stage 17 - Alto de El Morredero

Today we head in search of the 2025 Stage 17 finish. The peloton will finish with a gruelling climb up to Alto de El Morredero. This 23km climb averages 6% but don’t let the statistics fool you. An inconsistent climb which includes 5km with grades between 9-11% and at least half a dozen ramps touching 14-17%. You will be proud of your achievement as you too reach the Stage 17 summit finish. ‘El Morredero’ has only been used twice at La Vuelta (1997 & 2006) and Alejandro Valverde was the last to win on this giant climb in Leon province!

After three days on the bikes today we will take a rest to take advantage of a special Vuelta VIP race experience. In the morning, we will drive 2.5hr to Valladolid to be in position for the Stage 18 individual time trial. Through our partnership with Team Visma, you will spend a day with the pro-team! Things will kick off by being dropped off at the TVL team hotel before enjoying a ‘start to finish Stage 18 experience’. After soaking up all the backstage Vuelta excitement there will be a 1hr drive through to Segovia and our new base for the next 3 nights.
Segovia is a Spanish jewel and its 1st Century aqueduct is one of the best preserved Roman structures in Europe. Also be sure to explore the Alcazar fortress, La Muralla (ramparts) and the Jewish Quarter. For those who are interested, we can also find time during your Segovia stay to visit the iconic 18th Century San Ildefonso Palace and Museum and explore the Versailles inspired gardens.

Today is all about taking advantage of the Vuelta rest day and riding through to magical Pedraza. On-route though we will begin by passing through Sepulveda which is another gem that highlights Arabic towers through to Roman walls. Big Vuelta race mountains are calling over the final 2 ride days so today is all about cycling through the rolling terrain of the Castile & Leon province. The route will finish today in Pedraza. This medieval town is in excellent condition and hidden away from the main roads. As you ride through the woods, the road turns and after a small crest there is the beautifully preserved walled town right in front of you. Cycling up to the small gateway is a fantastic experience and following the maze of small laneways into the old plaza will be truly memorable. Post-ride there will be a 30 minute drive back to the hotel in Segovia.
Tonight back in Segovia you should make sure to try the typical ‘suckling pig’ or ‘lechal’ lamb. No-one should leave the Castile province without trying these Spanish roast meals (‘asado’ cooking).

Bola del Mundo
Traditionally the Sierra de Guadarrama mountain range plays host to the penultimate stages of La Vuelta Espana.
After a couple of years in northern Spain we are happy to return to this fantastic cycling landscape on the outskirts of Madrid. Climbs, such as, Navafria, Cotos, Morcuera and Navacerrada are written in Vuelta folklore. The Navacerrada ski station (1800m) is the altitude training base for Spanish pro-outfit Movistar and we expect to see fireworks as the Stage 20 summit finish to ‘Navacerrada’ provides the final chance for the GC riders to flex their muscles.
As part of the 2025 Vuelta edition, the pro-peloton after hitting the Navacerrada ski station must veer off and confront the ‘Bola del Mundo’ wall. This is a ‘special category climb’ and the final 3km to the summit on rough concrete roads will make for a spectacular stage finish. During 2025 it will only be the third time the Vuelta has raced Bola del Mundo (it was first included in 2010). The brutal 3km road to the summit includes a 12% average grade and the maximum gradient hits 23%. The hardest 23% segment comes just 500 metres before the summit. For those looking for a major challenge, feel free to test yourselves on Bola del Mundo only hours before the pros!
Post-stage feel free to jump in the vans or ride the final 25km back to Segovia.

Yesterday the Vuelta was decided in the Guadarrama mountains. We don’t need to get to Madrid though until tonight to see the Stage 21 sprint finish. As such, we will have time this morning to collect another big climb in the Guadarrama mountain range; ‘Morcuera’!!
The Morcuera climb is a Category 1 classic (13.5km at 5% average grade). The descent down to Miraflores rounds out a fantastic route which finishes immediately to the north of Madrid. Post-ride there will be a 1hr transfer into central Spain.
As the sun starts to set over Paseo de la Castellana (Spain’s version of the Champs Elysees) the wizz of the wheels will return to Madrid. After many difficult closing mountain stages the sprinters will have the final say. The post-race celebrations around the Cibeles fountain are always spectacular. Primoz Roglic won his fourth Vuelta title during the 2024 edition. Will he be back in 2025 to go for the record number of titles? Viva La Vuelta!

Daily Rides
We offer a guided ride each day. We have Paul as your bike guide on the road with you. We also have a support vehicle with driver who is also a mechanic. We will either transport everyone to a location from where we will start the daily rides, or we will ride straight out from the hotel. We offer vehicle support for the riders and the spectators will be transported to the day’s vantage point to watch the race.
Transportation
On days where we move on to another hotel, we will transport luggage, bike boxes and bikes and we will offer an adapted itinerary depending on the day’s logistics.
Spectators
Riders and spectators are reunited together. We attempt to keep hotel changes and transfers to a minimum.
