Itinerary

Day To Day

Arrive in Roubaix today by your own means, or for simplicity why not take our Sportive Breaks transfer departing Brussels International Airport (BRU) at 11:00am. This is available for £60 single or £120 return.

If your flight falls outside of our pre-arranged group transfer time please contact us about private transfer options from BRU Airport – we can happily assist with a quote for you.

Today our staff will visit the Paris-Roubaix Expo to collect your race packs for you. These will then delivered to your hotel and will be available this evening.

For those of you who have also ordered rental bikes through us, these will also be available for collection from lunchtime at our hotel. Don’t forget your pedals!

Our bike mechanic is also available from lunchtime to assist you and ensure your bike is ready for the challenge ahead. At 14:00pm we will head out on a warm-up ride to allow you to spin your legs, check your bike over, experience the cobbles and hone your technique before the big day. We estimate this ride to be approximately 30km.

This evening our host will provide a race briefing for the Roubaix Challenge that will take place tomorrow.

Today is the Day!

Long route: Our transfer leaves our hotel in Roubaix at 05:00am sharp. Please ensure you are at the coach early to allow time for us to load bikes and still get away on time. The transfer to the start in Busigny takes approximately 1hr 30 minutes. It’s then time to embark on the ride back through the famous cobbled sectors and culminating in the Roubaix Velodrome. The start is a rolling start between 07:00am and 07:45am.

For those tackling the Medium and short route: Starts vary between 07:00am & 09:00am for the Legend ride (145km) and 09:00am & 11:00am for the Discovery (70km) ride. The starting line is located just a short 3km ride from our hotels.

The finish of all Sportive distances is at the Roubaix Velodrome.

Paris-Roubaix Femmes Race

After finishing your ride you can drop off your bike at the hotel, get changed and head back to the velodrome to watch the finish of Paris-Roubaix Femmes. The finish is scheduled for 17.30.

For guests in the Mercure, the evening meal is available at the hotel this evening, while guests in the B&B Grand Place hotel can chose one of Roubaix’s many restaurants to eat out.

Today there are two options available to catch the pro race:

  1. Option One – Watch from the cobbles. A Sportive Breaks Cycle Guide will lead you on a guided ride to Carrefour de l’Arbre to watch the pros pass. This is a full-day cycling trip to spot the pros tackle the cobbles without watching the finish in the Velodrome.
  2. Watch from the Roubaix Velodrome: Enjoy a leisurely morning in town and watch the early sectors from one of the Roubaix’s many Cafes or bars,  before travelling to the velodrome to watch the end of the race from the an incredible, exclusive position within track centre of the Roubaix Velodrome.

Our team are available to assist you with re-packing your bike before travel tomorrow.

About the Paris Roubaix Challenge

There are 3 Paris Roubaix Sportive options. All Sportives start and finish in the famous Roubaix Velodrome, apart from the long distance which starts in Busigny at about 100km from Roubaix. When you book your long distance entry with Sportive Breaks, transport to the start is included with a coach with specialized bike trailer with collection from our hotels in Roubaix..

Ride the Hell of the North and its fabled cobbled sectors, including the Carrefour de l’Arbre and the Trouée d’Arenberg. There are three increasingly difficult routes on offer, on roads which are open to traffic but secured by numerous volunteers and motorcyclists. There is a legendary race for everyone, covering distances from 70km, 145km or 170km.

Roubaix Challenge Long Distance

The “Hell of the North” (170 km) ride will start from Rue Pasteur in Busigny (Nord department) between 7 and 7:45 am. To get to Busigny, Sportive Breaks provide a shuttle from Roubaix (departing from Mercure Hotel) at 05:00 am on Saturday.

Shorter distances

The “Legend” (145 km) ride will start from the Parc des Sports de Roubaix between 7 and 9 am, followed by the “Discovery” (70 km) ride, which will get under way from the same place between 9 and 11 am.

Time limit

We advise you to start as early as possible within your assigned time slot to boost your odds of reaching the velodrome before the time limit which is 16.00. All distances finish with half a lap around the fabled Roubaix Velodrome. For logistical reasons, due to the scheduled finish of Paris–Roubaix Femmes at the Velodrome at 17:20, finishing at the Velodrome will be possible until 16:30. After that time, the velodrome will no longer be accessible and members of the organisation (marshals, motorbike riders…) will guide you towards a different return course to take you to the Parc des Sports de Roubaix without getting caught by the Elite Women’s race.
