Tour Overview

Strade Bianche

One of the modern classics of the sportive calendar. The Strade Bianche is one of the first major races of the European season taking in an undulating route over the old gravel roads of Tuscany. The pro race stems from a sportive set up in the late 90s in this region called L;Erioca which celebrated the golden age of cycling where amateurs would ride old bikes in retro kit over stunning Tuscan roads. This became so popular the pros wanted a race on the same terrain, and to come full circle there is now a granfondo for the pro race which is based on a sportive.

Routes & FAQs

The Routes

There are two routes for the Strade Bianche Granfondo, both starting and ending in Siena. The long route is the same as the women's pro race over 139km with 31km of gravel. The shorter route is 86km with 21km of gravel. There are few tough climbs until you hit the final ascent into Siena where the gradients hit 16% before finishing in the amazing square - one of the most stunning finishes to a bike race anywhere in the world.

Choose the Route

Ride Distance: 139

Elevation gain: 1350

The long sportive route goes over the same course as the women's elite race. The trickiest parts of the route are sector 2 with a nasty climb and the long almost 10km sector. Save some energy for the final sharp climb into Siena.

Ride Distance: 86

Elevation gain: 950

The medium route still features plenty of gravel to give you a feel for the race. The ride splits after sector 2 and takes in some new gravel roads before rejoining for the last 20km.
