Giro d’Italia 2026 – Hospitality Experience Reviewed

Chasing the Giro: From Milan to Voghera — and Into the Race Itself

Supporters await the arrival of the Giro d'Italia

I arrived into Milan on the evening of Saturday 23 May, stepping straight into the vibrant rhythm of a city that seems to thrive on energy and style. Before even checking into my hotel, I took time to absorb the sights and sounds—elegant streets, bustling cafés and that unmistakable Italian buzz. Milan offers a wealth of cultural, sporting, culinary and leisure opportunities and even a short stroll makes that abundantly clear.

After settling in, I headed back out to explore. It was the perfect prelude to what would become an unforgettable experience the following day.

From Milan Centrale to Something Special

On Sunday morning, I made my way to Milano Centrale and boarded a train bound for Voghera. The ticket cost just 10 euros—a small investment for what turned into a truly exceptional day.

The journey was quick and relaxed, carrying me away from the metropolitan energy of Milan into the quieter surroundings of Lombardy. After arriving in Voghera, I took a short walk from the station into the centre of town…and straight into the heart of Stage 15 of the 2026 Giro d’Italia.

But this wasn’t just a chance encounter with the race—I was there to be part of something special.

The Superb Drive Experience

I had signed up for the Superb Drive experience, and from the moment things began, it exceeded all expectations.

The day started with top-tier hospitality, setting the tone for what lay ahead. From there, we were granted exclusive access to the team bus area, offering a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the professional world of the Giro d’Italia. Watching riders and staff prepare up close gave a whole new appreciation for the precision and organisation that goes into each stage.

Then came the highlight: spending the day inside an official Giro d’Italia race car, driven by former professional cyclist Francesco Tizza. This wasn’t just a passenger seat—it was a front-row position inside the race itself.

Inside the Race

From the car, the Giro d’Italia feels completely different. We had live access to the race operations radio, which we listened to throughout the day. Hearing real-time updates, team communications and race decisions as they unfolded added an entirely new layer to the experience.

Combined with Francesco’s expert insight into the peloton, the race came alive in ways you simply can’t replicate from the roadside or on television. He explained tactics, positioning, rider behaviour and the subtle dynamics that shape each stage. It transformed the race from a spectacle into a story—one you could follow moment by moment.

Driving within the race convoy also gave a unique appreciation of the scale and complexity of the Giro d’Italia. The coordination between vehicles, teams, officials, and riders is incredible and being immersed in that environment was something I won’t forget.

The Run Into Milan

As the stage progressed and the race built towards its conclusion, we made our way toward Milan. One of the most surreal parts of the experience was arriving ahead of the riders into the finish area—something reserved for those directly involved in the race.

We were welcomed into the hospitality area, the anticipation building as everyone waited for the riders to arrive and contest the stage victory. After spending the day embedded within the race, seeing it culminate at the finish felt especially meaningful.

Moments later, the riders powered into Milan, battling for the win after a long and demanding stage. Watching that final effort unfold, knowing everything that had gone into it—from team tactics to race dynamics—made it all the more compelling.

More Than Just Spectating

This wasn’t just about watching the Giro in hospitality—it was about experiencing it from the inside.

From Milan’s cosmopolitan charm to Voghera’s race-day atmosphere and ultimately into the heart of the peloton itself, the journey offered something truly unique. The Superb Drive experience turned what could have been a great day into an extraordinary one, blending hospitality, access, insight and adrenaline into a seamless package.

Final Thoughts

Looking back, it’s hard to believe how much was packed into such a short time. A simple train journey, a walk into town and suddenly I was part of one of cycling’s greatest events—not just as a spectator, but as a participant in the race environment itself.

If there’s one lesson from this trip, it’s this: sometimes the best travel experiences go far beyond what you expect—especially when you get the chance to step inside the action.
