Stelvio Weekender Cycling Holiday

This is one of the great cycling weekends for climbers. Over 5 days you climb the Stelvio (from both sides), the Gavia & Mortirolo as well as some great local routes that many people find to be their best climb of the trip. Each of the three main riding days are tough with two or three climbs per day and over 3,000m of elevation, but the payoff is riding in a varied and stunning part of the world and ticking off some proper bucket list climbs. Bormio is the perfect town to relax after a ride with some nice ice cream shops, markets and hot springs. Bring strong legs and a big rear cassette for the ultimate Stelvio cycling holiday!

Day One : Arrival & Warm Up Ride

Arrive at Milan Linate before 10.30am for the transfer to Bormio. We arrive for around 2pm where our mechanic will be waiting to help build bikes. After check in to the hotel you have time to go for a 25km warm up spin before our welcome dinner at 7.30pm with a brief on the week.

Day Two : Stelvio Loop

Distance Elevation Difficulty
Front Group 115km 3930m 5/5
Main Bunch 72km 2813m 4/5

The queen stage. We start at 8.30am (depending on weather / time of year) and start immediately the climb to the Stelvio from Bormio. The front group get to the summit of the Stelvio, descend the Umbrail pass before lunch in Prato. From there it is just 48 hairpins back to the top and a descent home! The main bunch climb from Bormio before descending half way down the Prato side (the iconic part) before lunch and then climbing the last 13km of the second side & descending back to the hotel. We set up feed stops regularly and there is a lead guide with each group. After the ride we grab a beer on the terrace before dinner at 7.30pm.

Select Route:

Day Three : Cancano / Livigno

Distance Elevation Difficulty
Front Group 93km 2831m 4/5
Main Bunch 54km 1663m 3/5

A "slightly" easier ride after a big day on the Stelvio. We roll out slightly later at 9.30am to allow for a more relaxed morning and head over to the beautiful climb of Cancano for the Main Bunch and on to Livigno over two climbs for the Front Group. This is one of the pro team capitals of Europe in the summer with most teams having a base to prepare for the Tour. For the Main Bunch we come back to Bormio and take on the climb of Bormio 2000 before descending into town for lunch.

Select Route:

Day Four : Mortirolo / Gavia Loop

Distance Elevation Difficulty
Front Group 111km 3330m 5/5
Main Bunch 109km 3072m 5/5

Another roll out at 8.30am, we descend down the valley to Grosio where you have the choice of which side to climb the mighty Mortirolo. The first side from Grosio is 14km at 8% or continue to Mazzo for the famous side, 12km at 11%. We meet at the top and then descend and ride to Ponte di Legno for lunch. From here, we climb the Gavia before descending back to Bormio.

We have two ride options each day. The long routes each day are tough with two big climbs each day, suitable for good club riders. The second group go at a more relaxed pace, the climbs are tough but manageable and we regroup for coffee at the tops before descending and riding the flat sections together.
We will send a full packing list before you leave. There is a free overnight laundry service so you don't need to bring kit for each day but you will need warm & cold weather gear. We give you a day bag for the van so you can pack jackets etc to pick up at the summits.
Contact our team via the live chat below or [email protected] and we can suggest alternatives including private transfers.
