Sportive Breaks

Our Top 7 Bike Hotels in Europe

Each year we visit hundreds of bike friendly hotels across Europe to find you the best accommodation for your cycling holidays and sportive breaks. Our search is ongoing but here are our current favourite seven bike hotels in Europe (in no particular order):

Garda Bike Hotel | Lake Garda, Italy

If you’ve ever been to this great hotel, you will definitely agree on this choice. Garda Bike Hotel is run by two friendly brothers who personally ride with guests every day in the cycling season. This is one of the most established bike hotels in Italy and the brothers Verdolin have continued to invest into the cycling facilities and learn exactly what cyclists want on their holidays. The bike room is first rate with plenty of equipment and a cleaning area. The rooms are modern and very comfortable and the hotel has a lovely welcoming atmosphere. This is a bit of a cycling institution and is perfect for a weekend break or longer – there are so many great routes in the area you will never run out of places to ride.

What makes it so great – Friendly staff who love showing you this wonderful cycling region.
Best time to visit – April to October
Local Sportives – Granfondo Colnago

Sporthotel Villaconcha | Port de Pollensa, Mallorca

Bike Hotel3

The home of cycling in the spring and increasingly in the autumn, Mallorca is full of big hotels with great bike facilities. Our current favourite on the island is the brand new Villaconcha on the outskirts of Port de Pollensa. While a lot of hotels on the island look a bit tired, Villaconcha looks ready for a visit from the Queen and they have not spared any cost in putting in the best facilities for cyclists. Outside there is a family area and a separate sports area with a lane pool overlooked by a well stocked gym and spa. The spa even features an ice bath for the brave looking for quick recovery times. The bike room is impressive with an area for VIP bikes! Next to the bike within the hotel is a new shop with Wilier bikes, Santini kit and they are working on local guided rides.

What makes it so great – Incredible cycling facilities and modern rooms.
Best time to visit – March to June & September to October

Lungomare Bike Hotel | Cesenatico, Italy

Another big bike hotel that has been around for years and really understands what guests need. From March until October the hotel has 5 expert local guides taking guests out to explore the beautiful routes in this part of Italy. The bike facilities are incredible with possibly the most expensive bike storage room ever built and a good spa with massages available to relax. Lungomare is very popular with pro teams from Italy and around the world. The hotel is also right on the beach so you can combine great riding with a beach holiday. Perfect for spring training, a season ending holiday in Autumn or as a base for the brilliant Nove Colli.

What makes it so great – Great facilities and friendly local guides.
Best time to visit – March to June & September to October
Local Sportives – Nove Colli

Cambrils Park Sports Village | Costa Daurada, Spain

A relative newcomer to the Bike Hotel world, Cambrils Park spends its summers entertaining families in the Spanish sun and the rest of the year catering to elite athletes and cyclists (and us). From December to February, the hotel is full of pro teams enjoying the sunshine, smooth roads and variety of routes. The new bike storage room and shop are perfect with helpful staff who have a great knowledge of the roads here – we definitely advise getting a guide to see the most of this area. Off the bike, there is a brilliant spa with spin studio and gym. If you want to play some games with your friends, there is minigolf, tennis, football, padel and multiple pools. Perfect for a very active training week.

What makes it so great – So much to do off the bike, so many routes on the bike.
Best time to visit – March to May & September to November
Local Sportives – Canyon Cambrils Park

Hotel Funivia | Bormio, Italy

Out of the hotel you can turn one way to the Stelvio, one way to the Gavia and another way to the Mortirolo. Not many places in the world can compete for local classic climbs! However, it is not the location that gets this hotel into our list. The hotel is set up perfectly for cyclists. There is a great bike storage room or you can hire a Pinarello. There is a daily cyclists laundry service and food specific for riders. And even better, there are free guided rides with the option of a backup vehicle to some great local routes. These are quite creative including a Thursday evening night ride! One of the best bike hotels in one of the best bike towns in the world – there are at least 3 must do rides so the shortest you should come here for is an extended weekend break.

What makes it so great – Local knowledge and support in cycling paradise.
Best time to visit – June to September
Local Sportives – Stelvio Santini

Il Perlo Panorama | Lake Como, Italy

The most glamorous hotel on our list. Il Perlo Panorama is just outside Bellagio with a large terrace overlooking Lake Como. Top top that, it is on one of the most famous climbs in Italy, the Passo del Ghisallo leading up to the cycling church and museum. Like many in this list, the hotel is family run by a delightful family led by Carlo who welcomes every guest like a long time friend. The guides are excellent with great knowledge of the many great routes around the lake and constantly smiling and laughing to bring a fun atmosphere to the ride. Lake Como is a stunning area to ride in and this is the only choice for a long weekend or longer. Next year there is the first sportive to accompany the Tour of Lombardy that goes past the hotel – this should become a classic season ending event and Il Perlo Panorama is the perfect base for it.

What makes it so great – Warm hosts and great guides with a million dollar view.
Best time to visit – April to June & September to October
Local Sportives – Il Lombardia (Granfondo Don Guanella)

Hotel Dory | Riccione, Italy

One of the oldest bike hotels in the world and in 2017 celebrating 20 years of welcoming cyclists from around the world. With all that experience, Dory has got cycling hospitality down to a tee. From meeting you at the airport, to the weekly welcome reception to explain how the week will work, guests know exactly what to expect. Each night you choose which route to sign up to based on distance and average speed and then, after a lovely breakfast, off you ride with guests from around the world. The guides are first class and the facilities off the bike are excellent. If you want a week in a great cycling location, Dory is a perfect host. You can come on your own and make friends, with group of mixed abilities and not need to worry or in a small group and all ride together – the hotel will take care of everything for you so you can just concentrate on riding.

What makes it so great – Years of experience have taught Hotel Dory how to put on the perfect cycling week
