Granfondo Lombardia

Gran Fondo Lombardia Three-Night Packages

Italy’s Lake Como is a wonderful place to ride. With a mixture of challenging climbs and routes that run alongside sparkling lakesides and beautiful villages; the sportive complements the race of the Falling Leaves, also known as the Tour of Lombardy.

What better way to end a lakeside race than by enjoying delicious food and toasting with wine that has been produced locally?

What is Gran Fondo il Lombardia?

The Gran Fondo il Lombardia (also known as the Granfondo Lombardia) is the area's first big event, scheduled on the same weekend as the Tour of Lombardy. Starting and ending in Cantu, cyclists will experience the legendary Ghisallo in addition to the mercilessly steep Muro di Sormano - the two big climbs of the race.

Although this event is moderately difficult, there will still be plenty of opportunities to enjoy breathtaking views over the rolling terrain.

Routes & FAQs

The Routes

Unlike other sportives, there is only one route available - the long route. You will challenge yourself to tackle 109km, enhanced with approximately 1,700m of climbing.
Famous climbs featured along this route are Muro di Sormano and the Ghisallo. Defeat these and be rewarded with exquisite views and the obligatory bragging rights.

Choose the Route

Ride Distance: 107

Elevation gain: 1900

This is not a particularly long sportive, making it a fantastic option for those wishing to up their game but don’t feel entirely ready for the most gruelling sportive yet. With that said, the route is still challenging. The effort, however, is rewarded with stunning lake views around every corner.

Frequently Asked Questions

Getting There

Como is located near Milan. Sportive Breaks provide an airport transfer to the hotel from Milan Malpensa (MXP), and the journey takes approximately 40 minutes.

The transfer is scheduled to depart at 11:30 on Friday. We request that all incoming flights be scheduled to arrive no later than 11:00.

Documents Required

To take part, you will have to provide:

● A signed medical certificate OR
● A UCI (British Cycling) racing license.

Whichever form of identification you opt to bring will be collected by our team before departure so that we can pick up your entry packs on your behalf.

What to Pack

The event takes place in October, which can be quite mild. We recommend packing arm and leg warmers as well as a gilet. The climbs are considerably low, so the weather should not reach extreme levels. However, some of the slopes will be steep, so a big ring or rear cassette may be worth bringing too.

Registration

Race packs will be obtained on your behalf, by our team, and delivered to your hotel on Saturday. These can only be collected with a UK race license or a medical certificate. We will collect these from you before departure.

Start & Finish

The race will start and finish in Cantu. Race pens will be open from 06:00 for a 07:30 start. Sportive Breaks will provide two transfers from Como to the event, departing at 06:00 and 06:30.

Transfers back to the hotel will be available after the race.

Flying Out

Sportive Breaks will provide transport from the hotel to Milan Malpensa (MXP). The transfer will depart at 14:00, and we recommend that return flights are scheduled to leave after 15:40.
