Granfondo Lombardia

Como - 14th October 2018

Rolling Hills

About Granfondo Lombardia

Lake Como is one of our favourite places in the world to ride with a lovely mix of climbs, lakeside routes and beautiful villages nestled into the hills. This sportive is the first big event in the area and comes on the same weekend as the Tour of Lombardy making this the ultimate season ending weekend. The sportive starts and ends in Lecco and your options are to stay here for convenience or in Bellagio which is a prettier town with stunning views over the lake. Our hotel in Bellagio is on the famed Ghissalo climb up to the cyclists church to make the perfect vantage point to watch the pro race.
Full details to come in October...

Stephen, Tour of Flanders, 2017: "Organisation was perfect and marshalling superb. Hotel was great, staff were brilliant - definitely the right move to stay in Oudernaarde and will go back. "

The Routes

Only one route option, 118km with around 2,700m of climbing with the Ghisallo and Muro di Sormano as the feature climbs.

Long Route 118km

Not the longest sportive but with 4 categorised climbs and lots of rolling hills it will be a challenging route. All 4 climbs max out at over 10% and the Muro di Sormano hits 27%. Expect stunning lake views at every turn

DISTANCE  118 Km       ELEVATION  2700 M.

Where to Stay

Beautiful Bellagio. One of the most glamorous towns in Italy with its narrow cobbled streets and lake views. This makes a great base for cycling with ferries to other parts of the lake and the Ghisallo on your doorstep. Our hotel is on the steepest section of the famous climb - the perfect place to watch the race come past.

Como, glamorous lakeside town and home to the Lombardia Gran Fondo. Easy transfers from Milan are ideally suited to both well heeled Mialanese and visiting cyclists alike. With the pro race finishing in town expect a great buzz for the weekend.

Getting There

Very easy to get to, Como and Bellagio are just over an hour from Milan Linate (LIN). Transfers will be available.

Documents Required

Either a signed medical certificate or UCI (British Cycling) racing license.

What to Pack

Early October in Como could be quite mild so bring a gilet and arm / leg warmers. The climbing is all quite low so there should not be any extreme weather. Some of the climbs are steep so a big ring on your rear cassette will be welcome.

Race packs can be collected on the morning of the event (from 6.30am) or on the Saturday (10am to 12pm and 2.30pm to 7.30pm) in Como.

Medical certificate or UK race license are essential and must be shown to collect race pack

Start & Finish

Start and finish in Como. The race starts at 7:30 with pens opening from 06:00
