Sportive Breaks

Where to stay for the 2027 Etape du Tour

Etape du Tour logistics made easy with Sportive Breaks

It’s approximately 55 kilometres between the start in Cluses and the finish in Les Saisies. That’s a fair distance, after you’ve just left it all out on the road to make it to the finish line.  So you’ll need to choose the best place to stay. Your options include, near the start, near the finish or somewhere in between. Each option has its pros and cons which we have explained below.

The 2027 edition looks like a true Alpine classic. At 154 km with 4,850 m of climbing, it’s slightly shorter than some recent editions, but the climbing density makes it one of the toughest Étapes in recent years.

Route Overview

  • Start: Cluses
  • Finish: Les Saisies
  • Distance: 154 km
  • Elevation Gain: 4,850 m
  • Date: 11 July 2027
  • Major Climbs: 5

The Challenge of the 2027 Etape du Tour

There is the challenge of completing the Etape du Tour but the other challenge is working out the logistics of getting to and from the airport, collecting your race entry and getting to the start of the race and back to your accommodation after the finish. This is where we  come in.

Sportive Breaks are Sportive and Gran Fondo event experts and offer guaranteed entry for the 2027 Etape du Tour de France and the Etape du Tour Femmes avec Zwift. You will benefit from our years of experience as we’ll take the hassle away for you. Our hotel packages include a choice of hotels in the best locations for the Etape du Tour start and finish. Staff services like guided warm up rides, mechanic services and private feed stations on the route are included. Airport transfers and bike rental are also available.

Where to stay for the 2027 Etape du Tour?

Option 1 – Stay at the start in Cluses

Pros

  • Not far to go to the start in the morning
  • Not far to go to expo and registration
  • Closer to Geneva airport

Cons

  • A long way back after the finish with potential long waiting times for transport
  • Not the nicest place to stay. It is a holiday after all
  • Not many hotels available and standard of hotels is not great
  • It gets very hot in the valley, so you require a hotel with air conditioning

Option 2 – Stay at the finish in Les Saisies

Pros

  • Not far to go to after the finish
  • Cooler at altitude

Cons

  • Not many hotels available
  • Longer to go to registration and to the start on Sunday morning
  • Further away from Geneva airport

Option 3 – The Sweetspot. Stay in Megeve in between the start and finish

We’ve chosen to stay in the resort town and historic alpine village of Megeve. The town is easily accessible from Geneva airport and has a large selection of hotels from 2* to 5* giving riders the luxury of choice. On Saturday a guided ride is on the programme to register and collect race packs  in Cluses. The warm up ride is about 30km and it’s all downhill. A secure bike store is available in Cluses where you will store your bike overnight on Saturday night. Sportive Breaks will transport you back without your bike to Megeve.

On Etape day you will be collected in the morning and taken the short distance to Cluses where you will collect your bike and ride the Etape du Tour. Sportive Breaks are there for you on the route with two private feed stations. After you finish enjoy the atmosphere in Les Saisies and descend back to Megeve when you are ready. It’s a 20km ride back to Megeve with a Sportive Breaks checkpoint on the way in case any riders require a lift back to Megeve.

Pros

  • Very nice place to stay
  • Big choice of hotels
  • A bit cooler at altitude and hotels with air con available
  • Ride back after the finish so no waiting around

Cons

  • Getting to the start

Very well organised tour, loved the private feed stations
Very well organised tour, loved the private feed stations. The operators were flexible despite the road closures and last minute changes caused by external events. Would recommend them for future Etape events, due to the extra logistics that the event creates.

This was my first L'Etape du tour
This was my first L'Etape du tour and my first time using Sportive Breaks. I was impressed with the way they handled everything. From the guided ride to the race briefing. The race briefing was informative with clear details about the 2 private feed stations. I didn't have any issues personally, but those that did seemed to have them resolved by the Sportive Breaks team. Our transfer after the event was delayed, but I don't think that was their fault. I would definitely book with Sportive Breaks again.

This was my first L'Etape du tour
Highly recommend Sportive Breaks. Good organisation from the pre-race details to the pickup in the airport to the hotel and the feed stops on the route. They did a good job of organising in a challenging environment with various people at different points along the route, finishing at different times! Look forward to my next trip!
